Dear fellow readers of Munshi Premchand,

It is a privilege for me to make the timeless stories of Munshi Premchand available to readers online. From the stories like "Idgah" that I read as a school child to novels like "Nirmala" that I read in adulthood, Munshi Premchand has left an impression on me and that will last a lifetime.

In order to make this blog a little better and in order to make the reach of Munshi Premchand wider, I plan to make the following changes to the site in the coming days and weeks:

1. The blog will have its own domain name: premchand.kahaani.org. The site will still be accessible to readers via the old domain name munshi-premchand.blogspot.com, but I suggest you to update your bookmarks to the newer shorter URL. The site will continue to be hosted at blogspot.com and I believe any feeds will be automatically updated. (already implemented)

2. The long URLs of individual posts (stories) will be made more "logical". For example, http://munshi-premchand.blogspot.com/2006/03/blog-post_114178485327170195.html may become something like http://munshi-premchand.blogspot.com/2006/03/andher.html and premchand.kahaani.org/2010/12/andher.html. For this purpose, I will have to republish stories one-by-one. Sorry for the inconvenience to feed subscribers who may see in their feed stories that they have already read. (partially implemented)

3. To encourage conversation about the stories, I will open up comments on the blog. I encourage readers to discuss their impressions of the stories they read, of the characters and events, of their relevance to present times. They may also ask about anything they don't understand about the stories. (already implemented)

4. For people who do not understand Hindi, I have started the job to translating the stories to English one by one. You will soon see English translations of some stories. Any learners of Hindi will also find the translations useful.

5. I will try to add more stories to the collection, as I type them.

मुंशी प्रेमचन्द के साहित्य के सह-पाठको,

प्रेमचन्द जी के शाश्वत साहित्य को अन्तर्जाल पर पाठकों को उपलब्ध कराना मेरे लिए आदर की बात है। बचपन में पढ़ी ईदगाह जैसी कहानियों ने और यौवन में पढ़ी निर्मला जैसे उपन्यासों ने मन में एक अमिट छाप छोड़ रखी है।

इस आनलाइन कहानी संग्रह को बेहतर बनाने के लिए, और मुंशी प्रेमचन्द को अधिक लोगों तक पहुँचाने के लिए मैं इस साइट में आने वाले दिनों में निम्नलिखित परिवर्तन करने वाला हूँ

1. इस ब्लॉग का अब अपना डोमेन होगा premchand.kahaani.org. इस साइट को पुराने डोमेन munshi-premchand.blogspot.com के द्वारा भी पढ़ा जा सकेगा, पर सुझाव है कि पाठक अपने पुस्तकचिह्नों को बदल लें। साइट blogspot.com पर ही रहेगी और आशा है कि फीड स्वतः अपडेट हो जाएँगे। (यह कार्य संपूर्ण है)

2. विभिन्न कहानियों या पृष्ठों के पते सरल बनाए जाएँगे। उदाहरण के लिए http://munshi-premchand.blogspot.com/2006/03/blog-post_114178485327170195.html बदल कर कुछ http://munshi-premchand.blogspot.com/2006/03/andher.html जैसा, या premchand.kahaani.org/2010/12/andher.html जैसा हो जाएगा। इसके लिए मुझे कुछ कहानियों को एक एक कर के पुनर्प्रकाशित करना पड़ेगा। यदि इस कारण कुछ पहले से पढ़ी हुई कहानियाँ आप की फीड में दोबारा आती हैं को उससे होने वाली असुविधा के लिए खेद है। (अंशतः संपूर्ण)

3. कहानियों के विषय में वार्तालाप हो, इस आशय से मैं इस चिट्ठे पर टिप्पणियाँ लागू कर रहा हूँ। पाठकों से निवेदन है कि कहानियों के विषय में अपने विचार दें, पात्रों और घटनाओं के विषय में लिखें, उनकी आजकल की घटनाओं के साथ कैसी प्रासंगिकता है, इस बारे में टिप्पणी दें। कुछ समझने में कठिनाई हो तो वह पूछें। (संपूर्ण)

4. जो लोग हिन्दी नहीं समझते पर हिन्दी साहित्य में रुचि रखते हैं, उनके लिए मैंने कहानियों को अँग्रेजी में अनूदित करना शुरू कर दिया है। शीघ्र ही कुछ कहानियाँ अंग्रेजी में उपलब्ध होंगी। हिन्दी के छात्रों के लिए भी यह लाभकर होगा, ऐसी आशा है।

5. आशा है कि नई कहानियाँ भी संकलन में जुड़ जाएँगी, जैसे जैसे मैं उन्हें टाइप करता जाऊँगा।
